In this blog series, we hear from Tommy Atkinson all about his apprenticeship journey at IPI. We hope that by reading the stories of our inspirational people we can inspire our people to consider their career progression within IPI and encourage others to join the IPI family.
Can you tell me a little about your background and what led you to become an apprentice?
I had a background in computer game design, so I have always been interested in technology. IPI was presented to me by QA, an apprenticeship provider, which sounded great for my development as I did not want to go to university.
What specific skills or knowledge are you learning in your apprenticeship?
My role is split in two. For half my time, I am delivering solutions to our customer, so I am learning from the team about how to design and build contact centre solutions while also speaking to customers. The other part of my role is software development, where I am learning all aspects of software development, whether it be through my apprenticeship or internally within the business.
What does a typical day look like for you?
A typical day for me consists of lots of learning! I am currently working on a big software development innovation for the business to enhance the ability of the delivery team. I also spend a lot of time supporting our engineers to help design and build solutions for our customers.
What are your future career goals, and how does this apprenticeship help you achieve them?
This apprenticeship is providing me with the opportunity to gain qualifications whilst also working and gaining experience. With IPI, I am aiming to take my apprenticeship to the highest qualification, and to come out the end of it as a prominent employee at IPI.
